Edie’s great, great niece appointed Project Director of Somme 100

Edie’s great, great niece, Sara Robinson, who has a wealth of experience in community arts, was recently appointed Project Director of the National Commemoration of the Battle of the Somme this coming July.

Sara’s prime involvement will be in the events in Manchester on Friday 1 July and some information is
available via: www.gov.uk/government/news/nationwide-vigils-to-remember-the-somme.

A National Commemorative Service will take place at Manchester Cathedral on 1 July 2016 and will be followed by a procession through Manchester to Heaton Park. The Park, which hosted the PALS regimental training during WW1, will showcase dozens of bell tents in the ‘Experience Field’, each one bringing to life the stories of those on the home and western fronts a century ago. The event will close with live performances of music, spoken word and dance, featuring a youth choir and the Hallé Orchestra.
