Somme Vigil in Westminster Abbey

We felt very proud to attend the service of commemoration and later the vigil in Westminster Abbey on 30 June, the eve of the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.  Extracts from Edie’s diaries were read during the vigil by Miss Tessa Miles, a teacher, and by Lorna Mistry, a student, at St Albans Girls’ School.

A report, including a photo of those involved can be seen on the school’s website here.

Here are the girls who attended.  Lorna, standing next to Lisa and Dick, is holding a copy of Edie’s book.

Here they are later in the evening with Miss Miles in the middle.

The stories behind the vigil can be seen here and Edie’s story is here.
