Edie joins The Path of the Remembered

As part of marking the centenary of the Battle of the Somme a call has gone out to the nation, asking people of all ages to take a moment and pay creative tribute to someone affected a century ago by designing a simple memory square. Be it your ancestor, someone who lived on your street, or simply someone who’ve heard about who you respect, join us in this collective, creative act of commemoration. You can learn more about this here.

At a recent family gathering, several relatives of Edie sat down together and each made their own square in her memory as well as some others whom Edie names in her diaries.  These included Edie’s close friend and nursing colleague in Etretat, Sister Kate Maxey, as well as one of her patients, Rifleman James Lennox, who died in Edie’s care.

You can see the gallery of all the memory squares here.
